I remember a time it took forever for Christmas to come round. These days it is here before you know it!
Anyway, Christmas is just not the same, it is to commercialised and the meaning of it has got lost somewhere among the hipe. The commercial side of Christmas starts now before Halloween has passes and by the time we see fireworks it is fully under way.
I remember it was about families and not about how much you got in presents!
Kids expect far to much these days and the hipe does not help with this. I remember when things at Christmas started to get expensive we were told you could have something expensive, or you could have more of the other stuff.
We always got some sweets that you couldn't get at any other time, they had a strange chalky taste, along with some flavour. We also always got a tangerine, a real tangereen, not what they pass off as tangerines these days. They were bitter sweet, full of juice and half the size of an orange, not the small withered things you get now. We also got a Bloody Orange that had red through them and red juice. I have seen these on odd occasions, but they are not the same and lack the juice there used to be in them. I think these things are stored to long in special climateised warehouses. Same with apples, they are stored to long.
We then got a selection of presents from Santa and one from our parents.
It was a lot of fun back then, but now we would be looking for Xboxes and the like.
I won't pretend we wouldn't be, but I never had an interest in them. I bought an Atari gane machine once when they were being sold off, but there was not a lot of interest shown in it. Of course there was no Internet back then, if there had been it wouldn't have mastered as my parents never had a phone until I was working and put one in and paid for one.
I hear kids these days "I want, I want" we would have asked if we might get one, but we never demanded anything. It might have fell on deaf ears anyway. We got what we got and were happy with what we got.
Now a days it is Christmas being shoved down our throats by people driven by profit and sales figures!
There is no stopping the greed of some people.
I used to enjoy the programmes on TV, but all the good ones like Disney Time and White Christmas have gone to be replaced by even duller programmes than usual!
They even have the cheek to advertise these programmes as if they are the best thing since sliced bread.
The world is a strange place and getting stranger with bombings, Terrorists and people moving from countries they were born in to the UK, some being smuggled in to get a better life. I can't blame them for that, but once here they expect the NHS to care for them, they expect houses, and us to look after them.
There is only so much we can pay for!
People come here for an operation on the NHS, they try to pick this up, but some NHS trusts don't have the staff or the funds to do it. However, it should be if you have no National Health Number or no CHI number you should not get care.
Also people coming here on holiday should have to have Health Insurance to cover themselves. They should not expect the NHS to pick up the tab. People coming to this country should have Health Insurance and Unemployment Insurance and also have a place of work before they can come here. This is the case for other countries, so why are we so bloody soft.
Time to clamp down on all this, same with people coming here to go to University. Why should they get this for FREE?
If we go abroad it costs us, so why can people come here and get it for FREE?
I know this does not sound in the Christmas spirit, but as a small country, we just can't go on like this!
Anyway, I hope you have your family around you this Christmas and that you enjoy a less commercialised Christmas and that you enjoy your Christmas Dinner, whether it be at Lunch time, mid afternoon or evening. Only thing that will not be enjoying it will be the thousands of Turkey's killed for the plate. I don't think it is so popular now as it used to be, some have other dishes.
Whatever you are doing, have a good one.
Merry Christmas when it comes. 🎅
Why do we have one of these at Christmas time? 🎄
